Clinical Analysis of 8 Cases of the Head and Neck Reconstruction using Pectoralis Major Myocutaneous Flaps

Abstract
The pectoralis major myocutaneous flap is still used in reconstruction of head and neck defects because of the advantages of it such as good survival, one stage operation, good carotid protection etc.
We analyzed 8 cases of reconstruction of the head and neck using the pectoralis major myocutaneous flap.
@ES The following results were obtained:
@EN 1) The subjects in this study were 8 patients, 7 males & 1 female, with on average age of 54 years.
2) The tumor sites were: floor of mouth (2 cases), tongue(2 cases), hypopharynx(2 cases) and larynx( 2 cases).
3) The average completion times to oral feeding were 19.5 days in reconstruction of hypopharynx and partial esophagus, 13 days in hypopharynx and 29.3 days in floor of mouth except for total flap necrosis.
4) Total flap necrosis occured in a which received preoperative radiotherapy.
5) Complications were noticed in 6 cases (total flap necrosis: 1 case; partial flap necrosis: 1 case; infection and wound separation: 4 cases) but all were successfully managed within 2 months.
6) The pectoralis major myocutaneous flap was not influenced on the function of voice rehabilitation.
